Visits of Holy Sites & Ziyarah

Visiting Quba is highly encouraged and recommended when visiting Madinah.


Masjid Quba is the first Masjid established by the Prophet ﷺ after the Hijrah when arriving in Madinah, thus it is known as the first Masjid in Islam. 


The Prophet ﷺ would go to Masjid Quba weekly every Saturday for prayer, sometimes riding and other times walking. 


Sahl ibn Hunaif narrated: That the prophet ﷺ said: 

 “Whoever purifies himself in his residence, then comes to Masjid and prays in it, they will have a reward equivalent to Umrah.”

It is a recommended Sunnah, to visit and likewise make Dua for the inhabitants of Uhud.


More than 70 companions of the Prophet ﷺ who were martyred in the battle Uhud are buried there, including the uncle of the Prophet ﷺ Hamza, Mus’ab Ibn Umair and other noble companions. 


Also regarding the mountain of Uhud.


Anas Bin Malik narrated: That the prophet ﷺ said:

“Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) casted a glance at Uhud and said: Uhud is a mountain which loves us and we love it."

The Baq’ee cemetery is the resting home of many great companions, and the Prophet ﷺ made Dua for the inhabitants of Baq’ee. 


Aisha رضي الله عنها narrated:

“That whenever it was her turn for Prophet ﷺ to spend the night with her, he would go out towards the end of the night to al-Baq’ee' and say, “Peace be upon you, household of a people who are believers. What you were being promised will come to you tomorrow, you receiving it after some delay, and if God will we shall join you. O God, grant forgiveness to the inhabitants of Baq’ee al- Gharqad.” (This is the full name of the cemetery at Medina. Baq’ee properly means a place with tree roots, and gharqad is the name of a thorny type of tree. The name was retained even when all signs of trees were removed.)”

Therefore visiting it is a recommended Sunnah, likewise making Dua for the inhabitants of Baq’ee.

These sites are sites that have significance in the Seerah of the Prophet ﷺ, however there are no specific virtues or rewards for visiting these sites.

Rather they are visited for educational & historical purposes and to reflect on some of the occurrences in regards to the Seerah that may have taken place at these sites.

Some of these sites are sites in which the rituals for the 5th Pillar of Islam (Hajj) are fulfilled, while others are sites that have significance in the Seerah of the Prophet ﷺ, however there are no specific virtues or rewards for visiting these sites.

Rather they are visited for educational & historical purposes and, to reflect on some of the occurrences in regards to the Seerah that may have taken place at these sites.
