  • Where do I enter the state of Ihram for Umrah from, when coming from Madinah?

    The designated Ihram point (Miqaat) for the people of Madinah, and anyone come from Madinah is Dhul Hulayfah or known as Abyar Ali.

  • Can I enter the state of Ihram from my hotel in Madinah, without passing by or stopping at the Miqaat?

    It is recommended (Sunnah) for the pilgrim to enter his/her state of Ihram before passing by the Miqaat, however doesn’t necessarily need to stop by the Miqaat. Meaning the pilgrim can dress into the Ihram garments from the hotel and utter the intention for Umrah before approaching the Miqaatt on the road to Makkah. Meanwhile, it is permissible to enter the state of Ihram before the Miqaat for those who aren’t able to stop by, like of those who are traveling to Makkah via the Haramain Train. 


  • Is there a two unit prayer (Sunnah) that is legislated for before entering the state of Ihram?

    There is no clear evidence that indicate the legislation of two units of prayer (Sunnah) before entering the state of Ihram, whether at the Miqaat or elsewhere.

    However, some of the Scholars from the likes of Shaykh Abdulaziz bin Baz have mentioned, there is no prohibition in this act, and the matter is flexible.

  • Is Jeddah a designated Ihram point i.e. miqaat?

    No!

    Jeddah is not a designated Ihram point nor a Miqaat, as it is geographically located within the designated Ihram points. Only the residents of Jeddah along with the exception of those who are traveling to Jeddah via Sea, like the pilgrims of Sudan, who do not pass by a Miqaat, can enter the state of Ihram from Jeddah.


  • I landed in Jeddah without entering the state of Ihram, can I enter my state of Ihram from Jeddah?

    It is not permissible for you to enter the state of Ihram in Jeddah, as Jeddah is located within the designated Ihram points in which you must have flown over one of them. 

    In this case, upon you is to return to one of any of the designated Ihram points i.e. Miqaat and enter your state of Ihram. 

    The closest Miqaat to Jeddah is Miqaat Juhfah which located in the city of Rabigh, about 134 Kilometers or 84 miles away from the Jeddah Airport, or you may choose to go to Madinah, and make your Umrah upon coming back from Madinah. 

    Alhamdulilah means of transport and travels between cities have been made easy with the Haramain High Speed Train. 

  • In flight en-route to Jeddah with the intention of Umrah, however misplaced or forgot to carry my Ihram garment to wear before flying over the Miqaat?

    In this case, you will enter the state of Ihram and utter your intention for umrah with you clothes, per the miqaat announcement of the flight. Once you land in Jeddah, upon you is to immediately find Ihram garments and change into them at the earliest opportunity you get (Ihram garments are sold in the Airport), you will then carry on and complete your Umrah.


    Once completing your Umrah, upon you is fulfilling one of the following three penalties:

    1. Feeding (i.e providing a meal) to 6 of the less fortunate needy in Makkah.

    2. Fasting 3 days.

    3. Slaughtering an animal.


  • Is it permissible to perform multiple Umrah’s in one trip?

    The foundation is performing one Umrah for each trip to Makkah, and this is closest to the Sunnah. 

    However, the scholars mention if you are someone who isn’t able to come to Makkah often, or maybe came from a very far land, if you are performing Umrah on behalf of some else, after you’ve performed your initial primary Umrah, then there is no issue inshallah. 


  • Is it permissible for a Woman to travel for Umrah without a Mahram?

    It is not permissible for a believing woman to travel without a Mahram, without necessity.

  • What is the ruling on the Umrah of a Woman, that traveled alone or without a Mahram?

    Her Umrah is valid!

    However, has fallen into sin, which is disobeying the command of the Prophet ﷺ and upon her is sincere repentance.

  • What is the necessary amount/level for shorting of the hair and can I trim from only one side of my head?

    FOR MEN: The Sunnah is to shave your head, and this what is preferred, recommended and more virtuous. 

    That being said, it is permissible to shorten and trim your hair regardless of the level or size trim, however what is obligatory is shortening and trimming an equal amount from all parts of your head. 


    FOR WOMEN: What is recommended is trimming a fingertip length from your hair.


  • Entering into Makkah without ihram?

    Anyone who has the intention for Hajj or Umrah must enter into the state of Ihram before reaching Makkah from the designated Ihram points. The scholars mention that the rituals of both Hajj and Umrah are an obligation, at least once in the lifetime of a Muslim, therefore if it is the first time coming to Makkah, then Ihram becomes an obligation for any of the Manasik, according to the season. 

    As for someone who has performed Hajj and Umrah before, and is coming to Makkah for purposes other than Manasik, then it is permissible for them to enter into Makkah without Ihram. 


  • Whose Miqaat is Masjid Aishah?

    Masjid Aishah is the closest point outside of the Haram boundaries to the Haram, and it is a Miqaat only for the people of Makkah (for umrah only) and those who intend Umrah while in Makkah.


  • Loosing Purification in the middle of Umrah?

    Majority of the Scholars are upon the view of purification being mandatory for Tawaf, as for Sa’ee purification is not required.

  • What are the Pillars and Obligations of Umrah?

    3 Pillars: Intention, Tawaf, and Sa’ee.

    2 Obligations: Going into the state of Ihram from the designated Ihram points, and shaving or shortening of the hair. 

  • Forgetfully falling into the nullifiers of Ihram?

    If someone falls into a nullifier from the nullifiers of Ihram, out of forgetfulness or ignorance, then there is nothing upon this person and their rituals is correct and valid. 

    However, upon this individual is to get rid of or refrain from this nullifier the moment he or she remembers, or acknowledges that it is a nullifier from the nullifiers of Ihram.

  • Delaying your Umrah after making it to Makkah because of tiredness etc.?

    It is permissible to delay your Umrah when arriving in Makkah for whatever the case may be, as long as one stays in the state of Ihram and refrains from the nullifiers of Ihram. 

    It is recommended that one showers upon entering Makkah, as it is an authentic Sunnah, while staying away from fragrances. 


  • What are the most virtuous seasons to perform Umrah?

    The Messenger ﷺ said in a Hadith collected in both Bukhari & Muslim: “Umrah during Ramadan is equivalent to Hajj” and in another narration ”Equivalent to Hajj with me”

    Therefore, the Scholars mention that the most virtuous season to perform Umrah, is during the Month of Ramadan.

  • When did the Prophet ﷺ perform his Umrah’s?

    The Messenger ﷺ performed 4 Umrah’s, and he performed them all during the month of Dhul-Qadah. 

    Thus, the scholars mentioned the most virtuous season to performing Umrah after Ramadan, is Umrah during the month of Dhul-Qadah.

  • What are the Virtues and Reward for Umrah?

    On the authority of Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه the Messenger ﷺ said: “For one Umrah to the other Umrah is an expiration of what is between them, and as for an accepted Hajj, then there is no reward for it, except Paradise”.


  • Is it permissible to wear sandals during Umrah?

    It is permissible, with the condition that your sandals are clean from impurities, and not harming anyone during crowded and congestion areas.

    The Scholars also mention another matter regarding being mindful of the feelings of the Muslims, and they mentioned that it is recommended for you to remove them being cautious of fitnah. 


  • It is permissible for a Woman to cover her face during Umrah?

    It is permissible for a Woman to cover her face during Umrah, however without wearing a Burqa or Niqab, as it is not permissible.  

  • Forgetting to utter the intention for Umrah?

    As long as one made the intention for Umrah, and entered into Ihram, then there is nothing upon this individual, meaning there Ihram and Umrah is valid. 


  • Entering the state of Ihram for Umrah and not completing the rituals?

    It is not permissible to go out of the state of Ihram for whatever reason until completing the rituals. 

    Unless this individual put a condition with there Umrah, at the time of entering into the state of Ihram i.e. that if he/she is prevented from completing the rituals for whatever the case may be” then nothing is upon this individual. 

  • What is the ruling on performing Umrah on behalf a deceased?

    With the condition of you having performed Umrah prior, it is permissible for you to perform Umrah or appoint someone else to perform Umrah on behalf of a deceased or someone alive, however isn’t capable of fulfilling the rituals, due to old age or long term illness. 

  • Is farewell Tawaf obligatory for Umrah?

    Farewell Tawaf has been legislated for Hajj only, that being said nothing prohibits one from performing farewell Tawaf before departing Makkah. 

    However, it is not obligatory and some of the scholars mention nor it is recommended.

  • What are the designated points of Miqaat?

    The Messenger ﷺ designated Ihram points depending on which direction you came from.


    1- Dhul Hulayfah or known as Abyar Ali for the people of Madinah, along with whoever is coming from that direction.


    2- Juhfah which located near the city of Rabigh, for the people of Sham, Egypt and anyone coming from the West.


    3- Qarn Al-Manazil or known as As-Sail Al-Kabeer for the people of Najd and anyone coming from the East.


    4- Dhat Irq for the people of Iraq and anyone coming from the direction.


    5- Yalamlam for the people of Yemen and anyone coming from the southern direction. 


    It is necessary for the pilgrim to enter into the state of Ihram before passing through any of the following designated Ihram points, this also applies to those flying over it. 

    Thus, all plane en-route to Jeddah give an approximate estimate of the distance to the Miqaat, along with an announcement, before flying over.
